April 2009 Team Visit

Submitted by: Caitlin Milbauer

Going to Rwanda changed my life, for the best. Before going I really never knew what it was to be brothers and sisters in Christ. All my years going to church I would hear the pastor say "for in Christ we are all brothers and sisters" but the moment I would need help or just plain friendly fellowship I would very rarely (if ever) get it from the Christians that quoted these verses to me. It was only when I went to the grounds of Solace that I truly experienced the love of God.

On our first full day there I shared something that has been deeply eating at my soul for four long years with a group of about 200 widows and orphans. For the first time in my life I was accepted with love, compassion and accountability. These people did not know me but they came up and stood alongside of me and held me as I wept. With the help and love that both Jean and Ben have given me, it is only now that I truly know the joy of what it means to be brothers and sisters in Christ. Now that I'm back in the states it is the first time in my life that I have been home sick, not for my family in Wisconsin, but for my new family in Rwanda.
